  6. About TonePad
  7. ==============
  8. Tone Pad is a simple utility that acts like a combination Tone Generator and
  9. a cheap 'C@sio' like keyboard.  As a semi-musician, I often find myself in
  10. situations where I'd like to be able to pick away at a piano or (better yet)
  11. my horn to figure out some melody or passage of music that I'm playing with
  12. in my head.  This is a tool for such a time... if you find yourself in
  13. similar situations, then this program may be for you.
  14.  
  15. Installing Tone Pad
  16. ===================
  17. Please consult your documentation for NPI (Newton Package Installer), NCU
  18. (Newton Connection Utilities), or any similar Newton Package installer
  19. application.  Using an application supporting Newton Package installation,
  20. download the file (TonePad.pkg) on to your Newton device.
  21.  
  22. Using Tone Pad
  23. ==============
  24. After downloading the package on to your Newton device and placing it in a
  25. folder, select the folder and click on the Tone Pad icon. The program will
  26. open as a floating display.
  27.  
  28. The text box next to the label "Frequency (Hz)" is called the Frequency
  29. Display Box.  This box will display the current tone that will be played or
  30. the tone that was played via the piano keyboard.  Manual selection of the
  31. frequency to be played is done by simply writing in the desired frequency in
  32. the Frequency Display Box. (Please note that the decimal portion of the
  33. frequency will be dropped).
  34.  
  35. Below the Frequency Display Box, are two controls.  The left control,
  36. labelled "Duration (ms)" allows for the selection of one of the note duration
  37. length values.  Click on the picker box and choose a desired duration for the
  38. note.  Next to the duration picker is the "Play" button -- this will play the
  39. currently selected frequency for the desired duration.
  40.  
  41. The lower portion of the display corresponds to the 'C@sio Keyboard'.  On the
  42. bottom is a row of piano keys, now covering 3 octaves for your convenience.
  43. Pressing the keys will result in the update of the Frequency Display Box and
  44. the note to be generated.
  45.  
  46. Finally, there are two smaller buttons on either ends of the bottom corners.
  47. The left is the 'Info' button and the right is the close button.  Pressing
  48. the close button will close the program, while pressing the info button will
  49. allow access to the About button, which in turn opens the about box.
  50.  
  51. Removing Tone Pad
  52. =================
  53. Open the folder that the program is stored in and simply scratch-out the
  54. program icon... may you never find a need for this procedure.
  55.

  58. Tone Pad is freeware.  The distribution of this program must not include any
  59. fees not directly associated to shipping or media costs for the distribution
  60. process.  If you would like to include this program in a commercially
  61. available collection or package, please contact the author and ask for
  62. permission first!  Any form of distribution for this program must include (or
  63. make easily available) the following unmodified files:
